The Sin Game

deck of cardsI once read that evil desires lead to… temptation… which leads to sin… which results in repentance. Sounds straightforward right?

I know that I often make the statement that “I am broken” and we learn that as followers of Jesus Christ our past sins are forgotten and whatever sins we commit in the future will be forgiven by God’s grace and love for us. But does that give us a free pass to commit sin and then draw the ‘grace’ card from the deck?

Romans 12:2 says that we are not to “copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think”. This will be and ongoing process called sanctification where we allow the Spirit that we have invited into our heart to renew us giving us the strength to die to ourself. To pick up our cross and follow.

I know that there are sins that we knowingly commit as we do them. Ones that we have the strength to stop from committing but do anyway and then ask our Almighty God to forgive. Ones that we justify to ourself and to others.  Ones that we will choose another day to stop doing or recover from. God doesn’t require us to be perfect because He already loves us and He wants us to be rewarded by a sin-free life that provides us joy and peace.

God has already given us the freedom from sin and the strength to battle against it. He doesn’t want us to draw from a deck of cards because to Him there is no game to be played. It is only us that play the game with our salvation. One that you might end up losing.
