addictionWhen you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

I have sort of a addictive personality which can be a strength of mine at times but when it comes to emotions and feelings I wish I wasn’t that way. Because of being that way, I have the tendency to dwell on an emotion or feeling so much that I end up creating more negativity than needed spending way too much time and energy on it. If not managed well it can push those that love us away. David must have dealt with the same as he states in Psalm 38:11… My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance.

When we talk of addictions and the disease behind it, we probably often think of drugs or alcohol. Maybe even a sexual addiction of some sorts or smoking. I have heard many people express that they are fortunate that they don’t have an addiction of any kind to tend with and never had to deal with such issues.

But what about emotions and feelings as addictions? Could we become addicted to selfishness, envy, greed, and jealousy? To me these can be even more dangerous as the addictions that show themselves well on the outside of our lives. They are the addictions that live on the inside and eat away at our spirit and soul. They become the medication that satan needs to intoxicate us and lead us astray. Astray from God and those that we love. Take a moment and consider if you have an addiction or not. Be honest with yourself. Deal with it by praying, studying the Word, and be honest with the ones that you love that you are struggling with an issue. Ask them to pray with you and be your support group.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

James 5:16

God loves you and will see you through any issue that you face. Just ask.
