Pick Up the Phone

call the docAs I drove from my doctor’s appointment to work this morning, I had the pleasure of listening to Dave Workman from Vineyard Cincinnati talk about spiritual health. We often  have to deal with our physical health whether we want to or not. The body just has it’s way of telling us there is something wrong and depending on the severity you will have to deal with it.

For me right now, it is my eyesight that is in jeopardy and if I do not receive routine shots (yes, in the eye) I could risk a more serious condition. So, I will make sure I take care of it. But that does not mean I like to go to the doctor and like checkups. How many people really do? The doctor may tell you something you do not want to hear so we avoid the visit or consultation. What we don’t know won’t hurt us motto in action.

But what if our spiritual health is at risk? What if what we don’t know puts us at risk of eternal life? Does that alone not scare us to look inward at ourselves and get the prescription we need to get us in tip-top shape?

God is our doctor guiding us in how to live and how to nourish our souls for longevity here on earth and ultimately to share the heavens with Jesus. I think throughout our life we make an occasional visit to God’s office but it hurts because He pokes and prods at our heart and soul and we don’t like how that feels.

Churches are like giant waiting rooms where you wait for your call. The call to walk down the hall and enter the examining room where you know who awaits.

Call the doctor now!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
