Journey to be a Godly Husband – Loving God

man prayingI started this post off with the title Journey of a Godly Husband but quickly realized as I was typing that it would indicate that I had already reached my goal and that is not the case. I will always be constantly striving to reach that goal and not pursuing the prize is not an option. I will face obstacles and challenges that will test my faith and perseverance but “with Christ I can do all things” (Philippians 4:13) and this one thing is a must.

Over the last three years, I have been on an expedited journey of faith and have seen God do many great things not only in my life but in the life of my beautiful wife Jules. She is my best friend and accountability partner in our spiritual walk and I would not be where I am today without her. I feel that is important for anyone of faith to have at least one other person in your life that can share with you the joys and the “trials and sorrows” (John 16:33) that we will face. Togetherness is key.

Putting God first and loving Him above all else is the most important building block when laying the foundation of marriage. For if I don’t listen and obey, I will be “building a house without a foundation”. (Luke 6:49)

This one element is a tough one for many to wrestle with. What? I am supposed to place God first before my family? Not only my wife but my kids also? The answer is YES and if you study the Word you will read many examples where God will bless those who place Him first and have faith in His guidance. This will also include repenting of any sin in our lives and surrendering control over to God and seeking to cultivate a relationship with Him as if it was our job.

I believe that the best thing a man can do for his wife is lead her closer to God than to himself and that must start with me being the Godly husband that I am called to be.

1 Peter 3:7

In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
